Brisbane City Council – Inclusive Play Upgrades
As part of Brisbane City Council’s Access and Inclusion Plan Playscape Creations was commissioned by Council to incorporate specialised inclusive and All Abilities play equipment into existing parks to promote inclusion and equal play opportunities for all children, regardless of their ability.
Landscape Structures provides premium quality equipment specially designed in consultation with experts in the fields of child development, adaptive recreation, sensory play and occupational therapy, who form their Inclusive Play Advisory Board. Giving all children the opportunity to play together teaches them about their differences and their commonalities, thus eliminating bias.
Play elements that took more than 15 parks from exclusive to inclusive playspaces included:
– the SWAY FUN GLIDER which allows greater accessibility for children and adult companions of all abilities, especially those with special mobility needs – for greater peer to peer play
– the high backed OMNISPIN spinner that offers children of all abilities valuable vestibular stimulation while encouraging interactive play
– the OODLE SWING, with its seat designed at wheelchair transfer height, provides interactive fun for ‘oodles’ of children
– not just fast and fun, the sensory play ROLLER TABLE provides children with much needed sensory stimulation through the application of deep muscle pressure from the rollers
– the SENSORY PLAY CENTRE engages the senses and helps children of all abilities further their development as they play together. Built in tactile elements combined with 11 innovative sensory panel insert options offer auditory, tactile and visual stimulation while promoting fine motor skills and inclusive play.
